About Us

Vision

To restore our environment and our communities.

Mission

ReTextile uses fabric that was going to be thrown away to make quilts to provide comfort to survivors of human trafficking living in shelters and safehomes.

Values

Creativity: We seek to find creative solutions to problems by uplifting a diverse set of perspectives.

Community: We want to develop a connected and loyal ReTextile community, while also being the bridge between seemingly unrelated communities.

Compassion: We believe in showing compassion to victims of human trafficking and taking care of the most vulnerable in our society. We seek to show compassion to everybody involved with ReTextile by being respectful and empathetic.

Intentionality: In order to ensure the longevity of ReTextile and the environment we seek to protect, we must be intentional with our actions and stewardship of our resources.

Investing in the Future: We will help ensure the longevity of our environment and the quilting industry by emphasizing the importance of and investing in future generations.

Our Story

Having been sewing for almost a decade, Founder Ashley Yau began quilting in 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown for charitable quilting organizations.

When she looked for ways to help human trafficking victims with her quilting, she was dismayed to find that no charitable quilting organization was specifically serving this overlooked population in Texas.

This desire to provide comfort to others, combined with her lifelong passion for sustainability, motivated her to start ReTextile in May 2021 as a junior in high school.

Since then, she has had the opportunity to build her nonprofit through the selective Frisco Independent School District’s Independent Study and Mentorship program, under the mentorship of the Founder and President of Refresh Frisco, Elizabeth Watkins.

During this time, ReTextile achieved 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and forged connections with numerous shelters, charities, student clubs, and quilt guilds in the North Texas area.

She plans to Study Human and Organizational Development at Vanderbilt University with a focus on Nonprofit and Community Development beginning in Fall 2022 so that she can continue to pour into ReTextile.
